Cynthia Butler
Cynthia Butler is a devoted servant of the Lord with a deep passion for God’s Word and a steadfast desire to fulfill her God-given purpose. As the eldest of eight children, born to Lenzy and Margaret Hodge, Cynthia credits her parents for instilling in her the belief that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Their example continues to guide her life, inspiring her to walk in love and align her actions with God’s Word.
A proud graduate of Bethune Cookman University, Cynthia earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later specialized in case management. As I grew in prayer, I was blessed to lead the Intercessory.
Prayer Ministry at First Baptist Church of South Orange under the leadership of Senior Pastor Dr. Terry L. Richardson.
Spending time with God made it clear—He was calling me to more.In 2005, I was licensed to teach and preach, which opened doors for me to serve in many ways.
During my 15 years at First Baptist Church, I wore several hats, including Financial Administrator, Trustee, Worship Leader, and leader of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. I also had the privilege of supporting Dr. Richardson’s journey as part of his doctoral team at New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
Today, I’m proud to serve as an Associate Minister at Alexander Memorial Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, under Pastor Jesse W. Plater. I lead the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and am actively involved in the New Members Ministry and Christian Discipleship Ministry, helping others grow in their walk with God. Beyond the church walls, I’m a Stakeholder with Women Live On The Line Ministry (WLOTL), where I join an incredible sisterhood to encourage and uplift women in their faith. I’m also a facilitator for Breakfast With The Lord (BWL) Prayer Ministry, focusing on healing and deliverance through prayer and teaching. I’m passionate about helping others build their own intimate relationship with God—the kind that transforms lives. My favorite scripture, Galatians 2:20, says it all: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” That verse is my anchor, and I hope to share that same hope and faith with others every day.
Her passion for helping others—whether addressing medical, physical, or spiritual needs—has defined her career and ministry. She firmly believes in the principle that “many hands make any task lighter,” a philosophy she applies to both her professional and personal life.
Cynthia embodies the heart of a true servant, deeply committed to the belief that effective leadership begins with graceful service. Inspired by Christ’s example, she seeks to uplift and assist those around her in every capacity. Her life is rooted in love and devotion to her family, as a wife to Deacon Sherman Butler, a mother to four children, and a grandmother affectionately known as “Gigi” to her four grandchildren.
Beyond her family, Cynthia shares her faith as an active intercessor at Citadel of Hope Ministry in Leesburg, Florida, under the leadership of Apostle Dannie Williams. She leads the HOPE Prayer Shelter, a telephonic ministry that intercedes for the community, affirming her belief in the transformative power of prayer. She continues to pray fervently for others, seeking God’s presence and guidance in every aspect of her life.
Known for her wisdom and nurturing spirit, Cynthia is also celebrated for her culinary talent, particularly her delicious pound cakes and desserts. As a sister, aunt, mentor, and fierce defender of the faith, she pours her heart into everything she does, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she meets.
Cynthia’s favorite scripture, Psalm 138:8, reflects her faith: “God will perfect that which concerns you and will NOT forsake the works of His hands.” She firmly believes that while we may only see to the corner, God sees around it, guiding us with His infinite wisdom and grace.
